Is very hard to me decide about just one piece of tecnology because today we are surrounded by technology but probably if i had to decide i would choose the water kettle. I can't remember how long I've had one but I've probably had many because they don't have a util long life. Every morning perhaps the first thing that i do is bring water to boil to have breakfast and then i can't stop because I love coffe and the infusions like tea, herb tea or mate tea. I like this artefact because i think that is very util, you just have to put the botton and in a minutes you have hot water, when i have been without them i have chosen to use teapot but is a little dangerous to me because I'm very absent-minded so sometimes i forgeted. I know that I could live without a water kettle but definitly he makes me happy.
in fact it is a very useful tool, and i didn't notice yet, what would be of us without hot water, we use it for anything. And i'm with you, i'm also very distract, so actually it is kind a dangerous for us to use the teapot, it could make a fire if we're looking it 100% of the time. Hope it doesn't happen to you when the electricity turns off, because that is the only time i remember that the teapon exist haha.

I hadn't thought about the electric water kettle to speak about this topic, despite, I use it a lot because I drink tea all day, so I agree with you, the electric kettle is a very useful device, because I'm very distracted too, and the only moment in which I realize its importance is when the electricity turns off, and just like Vicente, in this moment I remember that the teapot exists XD.
